Sector

Metals

Oil requirements vary widely across a metal plant. From RMHP to CRM, VATS offers solutions for all application points.

Metals plant
Guaranteed Quality
The required NAS/ISO cleanliness level is defined and maintained for each critical application.
Maximum Uptime
Continuous operations cannot afford filtration-related stoppages. Clean oil reduces wear and breakdowns, helping keep critical equipment running without interruption.
Extended Oil Life
Keeping contamination under control allows oil to remain in service longer — reducing oil replacement frequency, consumption and cost.

The problem in this sector

What makes metals
different.

The defining challenge

Scale. Contamination. Continuous operation.

A metal plant has oil filtration requirements spread across a large site, with tank capacities ranging from smaller application points to systems holding 20,000 L or more. Operating conditions, contamination loads and required NAS/ISO cleanliness levels can vary significantly across the plant.

Scale, dust, heat and moisture continuously enter or affect the oil, accelerating wear on critical components. With production running continuously, filtration must control these contaminants without adding downtime.

VATS recommends Fluent OPTIMA. The Fluent OPTIMA range is suited to the varying oil volumes and filtration requirements across a metal plant. Configurations can address particulate contamination, moisture or both, while maintaining the required NAS/ISO quality.

Points of application

Where the oil
is at work.

Across a metal plant, oil performs different functions under very different operating conditions. Tank capacities, contamination levels and required NAS/ISO quality vary from one application point to another. Select an application point to see its filtration requirements and the recommended Fluent solution.

Point of application

Mining workshop

All heavy mobile equipment operates on hydraulic and transmission oils, which must be maintained at the required NAS level. The central workshop typically employs a stationary purification system for the recovery of partially used oil.

Point of application

Raw material handling plant

Raw material handling employs heavy stationary equipment such as wagon tipplers and bucket elevators, together with mobile equipment including wheel loaders and dumpers, all of which depend on hydraulic oil maintained at the necessary cleanliness level.

Point of application

Furnace

The furnace operates on hydraulic oils, which are cleaned continuously in bypass. Associated heavy-duty gearboxes require gear oil purification.

Point of application

Continuous caster

The caster operates on hydraulic oils, cleaned continuously in bypass. Gearboxes on the associated mills require gear oil purification.

Point of application

Rolling mill

The rolling mill operates on hydraulic oils, cleaned continuously in bypass, and employs heavy-duty gearboxes requiring gear oil purification systems.

Point of application

Further processing

Pipe forming, temper mill, pickle line and galvanising line. These processes operate on hydraulic oils cleaned continuously in bypass, with gearboxes requiring gear oil purification.
