Sector
Power
The widest variety of oils of any sector VATS serves — hydraulic, lubricating, turbine, and fire-retardant fluids for governing systems.
The problem in this sector
What makes power
different.
The defining challenge
The power industry perhaps offers the largest variety of oils: from hydraulic and lubrication systems, to turbine oils, and FRF for turbine control systems. A typical plant also has a large number of outdoor installations, which need large particulate contamination and moisture removal at the same time.
The governing system is the critical application. Fire-resistant fluid must be controlled for contamination (NAS), moisture (ppm) and acid number (TAN, mg KOH/g), and the Fluent range gives solutions to all application points.
Where the oil
is at work.
Select a point to see what the application involves and which machine is applied. These are the locations in a power operation where oil quality determines whether the equipment reaches its next overhaul.
Point of application
Mining workshop
Heavy mobile equipment operates on hydraulic and transmission oils requiring maintenance at the necessary NAS level.
Point of application
Raw material handling plant
Stationary equipment such as wagon tipplers and bucket elevators, together with mobile wheel loaders and dumpers, all operating on hydraulic oil.
Point of application
Coal mill
The coal mill operates on hydraulic oils cleaned continuously in bypass, with heavy-duty gearboxes requiring gear oil purification.
Point of application
Fans
Fans employ heavy gearboxes and require gear oil purification systems.
Point of application
Turbine and governing system
The turbine section comprises turbine lubricating oils, the governing system or TDBFP operating on fire-resistant fluid, and hydraulic oils. Lubricating oils are cleaned continuously in bypass with NAS level and moisture control. Fire-resistant fluid must be controlled for contamination (NAS), moisture (ppm) and acid number (TAN, mg KOH/g).
Point of application
Ash handling plant
Ash handling fans employ heavy gearboxes and require gear oil purification systems.
Point of application
General utilities
Oil is used across auxiliary sections — DG sets, compressors, cooling towers and refrigeration compressors — each requiring lubricating oil purification.
What we would specify.
Recommended
Fluent OPTIMA
Turbine hydraulic oils cleaned continuously in bypass; the same machine covers fan and ash-handling gearboxes.

Also applicable
Fluent SENTINA
For the mobile equipment at the mining workshop and raw material handling plant.

Larger turbine lubricating systems are served by Fluent POWER, and fire-resistant control fluids by Fluent TCF, within the same standard programme. See the product programme or contact VATS for details.
